This was also an 8.4.
What third was it? 8 or 8.4? One of the guys I know blew out his 8.4 with the ol TW burn out mod. 1 tire was on the road and 1 was not. Slammed the gas and by by 8.4. it was the first 8.4 I had seen destroyed.
8.4 doing the TW burn out mod. I do not think this one was a tire slam victim though; just heavy continuous abuse. @RichardB23 could tell more.

I used to go through e-locker r&ps every 9 months (I baby my truck). IIRC I changed mine out to an 8.4 (Sierra Gears, new bearings and ARB) in 2011 and have not had a problem with that ever since.I call it, the E-Locker Delete mod.

This is a different unit that an OEM replacement. I'll try to get the full info tomorrow.
Yes, I have seen that on TW and I know one guy that plans on installing one. The more I do with Toyota and a vehicle contractor, the more I like some of the Toyota product. I did a assessment of mine (IIRC you want a minimum of 1* angle on the u-joints to keep them lubricated and I don't think any of mine were more than about 3.5-4* after I put a 2.5* shim on the rear axle housing. Some say the angle shouldn't be more than about 7.This is a different unit that an OEM replacement. I'll try to get the full info tomorrow.
I loved this mod enough to copy it!
It has been a while since I've had the third out. I do need to do a preventive inspection of wear and reseal the ARB seals.Yeah but doesn't look right. But hey... have him report back in 20k miles. I'm probably wrong.. wife has already told me that once today so its not the first time.![]()
