Got my carrier bearing, U joints and driveshaft yoke & bearing replaced today. Spent way more than I was planning too but it should be good to go now. U-joints are Spicer and the yoke has a greasable bearing in it now!
I don't get it. What's the pipe bomb for?

I'm a long bed so my shaft is longer than yours ( lol :p) It's a replacement for the OEM extension that wore out. But we'll find out if it grenades later down the road lol

One of the last deals was to tighten up the vacuum pump for the brake booster. As I tightened it down - pop! There's another $300 and another day. I'd be pissed but with some of the crap life has dealt me in the last year, this one is simple. :(

As long as I am rambling... I inspected the intake runners 3 times before I put the intake back on. One of the very cool things about this motor is that all of the 16 intake valves are in the closed position. Even though I sealed them up as soon as the intake was removed, I still feared some nut or bolt would find it's way in there.

Installed the last bits - no extra hardware - I'm still a bit amazed by that! lol

Had a few positioning sensors throw a few faults. Cleared those and now have a misfire on no. 6. ...and I smelled oil - I freaking home that I don't have a hosed head gasket. I hope it is just the residual oil from the valve cover gasket leaks - I hope, I hope!!! If I do need a head gasket?? I may just part this bitch out! lol I really hope all of this bullshit was not just an exercise in futility. Where is that Leaf!? lol

Tomorrow I will get new studs and bearings pressed on the axles.

At least you have some time to spend on it. Imagine if you had to pay someone to do it?

I don't know what is worse. Having the time or not having the money/desire to pay someone. I plan on knocking on doors to get some business once I have a car to drive. One thing I am grateful for not thinking or saying FML :) I am fairly confident better days are coming.

Man you are golden. Just out the nose to the grindstone and things will work out. It's the setbacks like this that define you. You got this shit. I'm sure you will land on you feet soon. Like I said before, real estate is booming in Austin. I have a guest room that is all yours. Just say the word.

As many people from Morning Glory that have been moving to Austin there are decent odds he will know a few of them already.

Well, I thought I was fixing the car but it looks like I signed up for an advanced lesson in life. I'm not completely sure but it looks like I have to strip the engine back to where it was and time the valves.

MENG 568 - VANOS TIMING AND REPAIR - In this hands on course you will learn the inner workings of the BMW vanos system. Theoretical knowledge will be acquired through watching many related/unrelated accurate/inaccurate YouTube videos, reading many related/unrelated accurate/inaccurate posts in Bimmer boards, bits and pieces of the factory manual, Internet articles, etc.. Requires 20 hours plus of moderately effective lab dismantling and reassembling the top end and cooling system of the N62 engine multiple times. Pass/Fail 4 credit hours. Class is thought by Charles Dinkle, PhD Philosophy - class will be held in Morning Glory campus

Holy F no. It would be a shame if somebody stole/burnt it right after you put full coverage on it would be unfortunate.

Sorry man. But hey. You have the time. Could be worse. Could have ran it for 500 miles and had a valve hit something moving up and down and poof.. Bang... Boom. Glass half full. Plus you've done thing. You got this. Probably knock the time to do it in half. Be the BMW Tech!!!

I knew this one "friend" that had a broken down BMW. He towed it to a wal-mart parking lot and left the keys in it. Good thing he had full coverage on it. :)

Used a cheap cigar to make a smoke machine out of juice bottle, cigar, hose and Coleman mattress pump. Worked well. Good and bad news: No vacuum leaks. Time to replace some sensors and actuators I guess. :)

Worked on the taco. Had to put a new backing plate on one side so I changed out wheel bearings, seals, (OE wheel cylinders had less than 10k on them), new hardlines and finally modified the bracket to hold the SS brake lines I purchased from All Poo years ago. They required a 0.625 round hole - I am certain that they were cheaper for them to buy and it would be us suckers problem to sort it out. did any of you that bought SS lines get ones that locked into the hex opening in the bracket? Or am I imagining things?

And isn't it appropriate that I see this car the day I put on the ARP studs. Sadly, I need to cut them down since they are made for racing where they require x threads showing out of the nut and I'm too cheap to buy $80 set of nuts when I have a couple of sets of extended lug Gorilla nuts.

I ran Goodridge lines at first but now I'm running Crown lines. Man the crown stuff is the cats pajamas. Just perfect stuff.
