Any chance to use some heat to warm it up and then cool it to pop it loose? Or a hub puller from Auto Zone/ Oreillys.
I learned from the last one to just start with the hub puller. The hub came off with little fuss this time. As for the reassembly, I can't remember if I used grease or anti-sieze on the other side.
Or are you saying there is a way to use that to remove the axle?
When I helped Casey with his front diff he had an axle that was a mother fucker. He broke out the big pry and it did the trick. Make sure the tie rod and everything else is disconnected
Why do I need to disconnect the tie rod and everything else? I think I have everything pretty out of the way.
As for popping axles out. I got some 1/8" steel cable, made a loop and attached a sledgehammer to the other end. It removes axles post haste.
Noted. I'll probably go rent a slide hammer before it comes to that.
And ironic as it sounds - make sure the CV axle is level. I fought with one for about 20 mins and once I held it up level is popped out nice and easy.
I was thinking about this last night and wondered if that would help. I plan on having my wife hold it and give just a little pull pressure. I'll make sure she holds it level.
There is someone else lined up to borrow the ECGS removal tool after me. He's supposed to come pick it up today, which is why I started last night. He said he has a slide hammer he can bring over if I don't get it out before then.
