Many products, up to 16% that claim to be ‘Made in USA’ are really made in other countries like the USA in Japan or the fake stamping/stickers from China.

Well I don't think that company was one of them. And did you know that Abraham Lincoln once said "16% of all companies that claim to be made in the US are really made in other countries"? I read it on the internet. lol

just like those LED lights you installed in your garage, made in America, actually almost made in yo backyard, but if you look close, all those LED bulbs were made in China....

if it contains aluminum it was not made in the USA 99.999999% of the time. Thats an easy way to tell. We have always been and always will be a importer of that raw material. Alcoa has 3-4 boxite mines in NA and they are crap. If not for gubment support for war efforts I suspect they would of been shut down decades ago or never opened to begin with. I always laugh when I see the USA stickers on the extruded aluminum I sell. You will have also seen many post by me linking to news blurbs about the US taking legal action against china for breaking anti dumping laws concerning aluminum .

All that US patriotism said..... We all did at one time own Japanese trucks and I also own a Japanese car. A ton of my camping gear is also from Japan. I am a big fan of their engineering, design and culture....+ the women. Has nothing to do with skin color or religion, although I do admire their religious architecture more than any other religion's and they raise very smart, productive children. I'm all for supporting local, if the local products are good. I am becoming more and more anti China just because I think we have been and will be in a cold war with them for a long time to come.

agree, I like quality stuff even if Japan made, I prefer Merica made stuff, even if I pay a bit more for it, but there are so many products that are just not made here anymore and those damn unions here have made U.S. manufacturing to cut costs on cheaper materials and lack quality and many make junk cars like GM...

I try to buy the best product I can afford at the time - I do not care where it came from.

States "manufactured in the US"... that would tell me it was made here not simply assembled. This site indicates that 96% of the parts in the floor jack are made in the US. I would bet a simple jack stand is 100%.

Hein Werner Jack Review: American made floor jack
Actually, being a 'mfg' of medical parts. We were told a few times, charge us a bit more. They wanted to be able to say that 51% of their costs were from the US so that they could put Chinese junk in their equipment and call their products 'American Made.' This issue is much deeper than we might think.

So now we all know, whats a good brand jackstand? I like the pin style recommended earlier just to keep it simple stupied w/less moving parts

Going to need to replace my 3 tons and 6 tons at some point.
I use the NAPA ones. They are heavy duty and hold up my buses just fine. I've had zero issues with them.

If it has cast iron, steer clear of those, most stands that look like this below are cast in the adjuster bar. The pin stands are much safer, they just take a bit more time in setting them in place, but when your under a few thousand pounds, you can’t skimp on safety.

We share a parking lot w/Napa and I'm friendly w/the GM. Borrowed his forklift when ours was broken. He's borrowed our forklift fork extensions, etc. Just neighborly stuff. Ill walk down at lunch and see what they got and talk to him about a deal or when one is coming up.

So funny you say that....when I bought them and was looking at the crappy castings I had a gut feeling to stay away, but here we are 5+ years later and I'm learning from those mistakes.

A good deal of the door hardware I sell is cast aluminum (closers and door patch's) so I'm well aware of what happens when crappy castings turn defective. Had about two years worth of Italian door hardware go bad a few years ago from crap casting QC. Now I deal with Germans for that hardware. Their QC of third world countries products seems to be better than the Italians.

I bought my US General boxes from there and have been nothing but very happy with them. Also bought some latex gloves... can't think of much else. :)

I have a set of these from northern tool, in both the 6 ton and 12 ton variety. Made by strongway. They are the pawl and ratchet design but also have a locking pin to prevent the release from inadvertently letting go. The teeth are a lot thicker than the ones from HF from what I can tell.

I have a set of these home made jobbers which I’d trust over a HF unit.

Most of the time my vehicle is on the 2 post lift, these stands are for guests that come over to my shop. I’ve only used a handful of times to be honest, but they are nice to have around. I have two HF jacks, but I’d never buy a jack stand from that place.
