Might as well tax it and help reduce some of the associated crime. But we still need a few more advances in proper testing and documentation of people showing up to work under the influence.

California leading the charge on infringing on rights again. Exactly what was feared has happened. The article is worth reading; but the short version is a 5 to 1 ratio of legal to illegal people being denied ammo purchases. Then they did not have any provision for out of state buyers. So overall California is hurting their hunting, self defense, recreation, and tourism economies. All of that on top of infringing on a Constitutional Right.

NJ's idea is to just apply the normal sales tax to it so we have a pricing advantage over other states that may legalize and put higher rates of taxation on the products. For once someone took their head out of the sand and decided to make a good business move.
I know a few NJ legal medicinal users and with the current tax set up they are far better off to buy on the black market regarding price. The moral of the story is they only got their cards so they don't get arrested and NJ is for once actually thinking ahead and going to try and stop that. I also know two people who work in the medicinal NJ supplier pipeline and from what Ive heard their "safety" practices are not on par. You can't charge more for less and expect everyone to jump on the bandwagon.

Here you can't be arrested for any drugs - unless it's dealing qty. So... our homeless population has skyrocketed and no one other than wealthy folk get into rehab. We have 7 diversion programs that require things like NA and other rehab but now, since you can't get arrested, the rehab and diversion programs go unused.

Don't know if you have seen the pretty famous video of a bike path/river bottom near Morning Glory but I sat on a round table with our District Attorney, United Way, Mayors, et al. To "cure" that problem. Personally I'd like to see something like Civilian Conservation Corps or whatever it was called during the depression and deal with the drug issue by putting them in camps where the cant touch drugs and alcohol but ACLU would employ enough lawyers to fight it, you'd could use their money to buy an F40.

If I remember correctly, the homeless folks that were given vouchers for hotels only caused over $5,000,000 damage to the hotels that participated in the voucher program.
